National Map of Poetry

The Academy of American Poets has re-launched their National Poetry Map. It includes events, poetic histories, and featured poets on a state by state basis. The Illinois page currently features Carl Sandburg, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Li Young Lee, one of my top-5 favorite poets of all time. You can listen to his poem “The Hour and What Is Dead” on his page.

I consider Mr. Lee’s poem “The Hour and What is Dead” slightly disturbing. The author appears to be haunted by memories of his deceased brother. Issues, issues, issues!

Unresolved issues struggled with by the living can torment their souls even in death, causing the dead to torment those of their loved or hated ones.

Outstanding point, well made, Mr. Lee!

Mr. Lee’s poem is a disturbing, albeit outstanding view of how one man’s unresolved issues with his deceased brother haunt him even after his death. Apparently, the dead do not rest until all is well between he and the living.
